Firstly, water goes through a pre-treatment step, which may involve filters to remove larger suspended particles and impurities. Then, the water is fed into the reverse osmosis membrane components. These membrane components usually consist of multiple layers of semi-permeable membranes with tiny pores that block the passage of solutes and ions dissolved in the water, allowing only water molecules to pass through.
On the other side of the membrane components, a high-pressure pump is set up. This high pressure helps drive water molecules through the membrane pores, while solutes cannot pass through, thus achieving the separation of impurities and contaminants. In this way, purified water is separated and the waste water is discharged from the system.
The principle of reverse osmosis devices is similar to a screening process, where membranes with small pores allow only water molecules to pass through, while larger impurities are blocked. This technology is widely applied in desalination of seawater, drinking water treatment, and other fields to provide clean, purified water.
